Privacy Policy

The short version. We collect nothing about you and there is no account to make. Everything the game remembers is stored on your own device. The one third party in the app is Google AdMob, and it is only reached if you choose to watch an optional advert — described in full below.

Information we collect

None. We do not collect, store, transmit, sell or share any personal information. We operate no server and have no database. The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts or photos, and we run no analytics or crash reporting of any kind.

What the app stores on your device

So the game can pick up where you left off, it saves the following in your device's own local storage. It never leaves your device, and deleting the app deletes it:

Your settings — theme, sound, music, vibration, difficulty, board orientation and camera angle.
The game currently in progress, if any.
Your local ladder scores. These are yours alone; there is no server to send them to and no other player can see them.

Advertising

Uncommon Chess includes optional rewarded video adverts supplied by Google AdMob. They work like this:

You are never shown one unless you ask for it. There are no banners, no pop-ups, and no advert between games.
Watching one to the end earns a token, which unlocks a novelty game mode for a single match.
Tokens buy variety, never an advantage. Ordinary chess is the default, is complete, and needs no token.

When you choose to watch an advert, Google receives information necessary to serve and measure it — which may include your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device type and approximate region. That processing is Google's, under Google's Privacy Policy. We receive no personal information back; we are told only that an advert finished.

On iOS you will be asked whether the app may track you. Declining costs you nothing. You still see adverts and still earn tokens — the adverts are simply non-personalised.

Other third parties

There are none. Beyond AdMob the app contains no analytics framework, no crash-reporting service and no social login.

Network use

The game itself needs no internet connection, and never communicates with a server we operate — we do not have one. The app reaches the network in exactly two situations, both started by you: choosing to watch an advert, and tapping "Rate this game", which hands you to Apple's App Store.

Children

Uncommon Chess teaches chess to beginners and is suitable for children. We collect no personal information from anyone, of any age.

The app contains no chat and no user-to-user communication. It does, however, contain the optional adverts described above, and parents should know that. Where the app is distributed to a child audience, adverts are requested as child-directed and non-personalised, so no behavioural profile is built. A child who never taps "watch an advert" never sees one, and loses access to nothing but the novelty modes.

If you would rather your child saw no adverts at all, the game is complete without them.

Your rights

Rights such as access, correction, deletion and portability apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none. To remove everything the app has stored, delete the app from your device.

Purchases

Uncommon Chess is free to download and contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions. We never see any payment details, because none are ever taken.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date above. If a future version of the app were ever to collect anything, that change would be described here before it shipped.
